Abingdon-Avon CUSD #276 Returning to In-Person Instruction Five Days per Week
On October 5, 2020, the district will begin a phased-in return to in-person schooling. This return to in-person schooling will include a modified schedule.
- 8:00 AM-12:30 PM at Hedding Grade School and Avon Elementary.
- 8:05 AM -12:15 PM at AAMS.
- 8:10 AM -12:15 PM at AAHS.
In-person schooling will look very different when compared to pre-COVID-19. While social distancing will not be possible in many classrooms, virus mitigation and a safe learning environment will be a top priority. In order to reduce potential outbreaks, only students, staff, and administratively approved visitors will be allowed in buildings.
All students will be required to wear a mask and be in possession of his or her daily COVID-19 self-certification badge each morning, prior to being allowed entry to buildings or buses. Students without their self-certification badges will be asked a series of COVID-19 Symptom Screening Questions prior to entry to building or buses. Attached is a one-time use, printable self-certification paper. Please send with your child on the first day of student attendance. On the first day of student attendance, students will receive a laminated daily badge and lanyard for repeated use.
All students, staff, and approved visitors will be temperature screened before entering buildings or buses. Anyone with a temperature greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (after multiple readings) will be denied entry. A phone call will be made to parents when a student presents a temperature greater than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit to arrange pick-up.
Individual building expectations and procedures will be shared by principals via email on Monday.

Any students/families that intend to stay in REMOTE learning, should contact their school office in order to ensure access to continued remote instruction.
Transportation
Due to ISBE COVID-19 Guidelines, no more than 48 students may ride a bus at any one time. This, along with a lack of drivers, will result in a reduction of the number of regular route pick-ups. Next week, route drivers will be contacting those families whose students will be able to ride their buses. Additionally, social distancing will be impossible on a school bus. It is strongly suggested that families try to find alternative methods of transportation.
Middle School Shuttle Transportation from the High School to AAMS and back will not be impacted and will be available each day.
Non-bus riders should not be dropped off / arrive prior to 7:45 AM. No students will be admitted to buildings prior to 7:45 AM.
As a district, we are committed to staying open for in-person learning. In order to continue to offer in-person learning, it is vital that all staff, students, and parents/guardians follow the guidelines set forth in this document, as well as building level expectations and procedures.
