On Thursday May 9, 2019 seven Abingdon-Avon CUSD #276 staff members were recognized at the 2nd Annual Excellence in Education Banquet:
Mindy Riney, Jamelia Tinkham, Stephanie McKinley-Miller, and our District Guidance and Social Work Team (Cordan Beebe, Denise Phillips, Margie Winski, and Stacy Nagel)
Over the next week, each one of these amazing staff members will be highlighted.
Today, it my honor to highlight Jamelia Tinkham
According to Michelle Andrews, HGS Principal:
Jamelia Tinkham has only been a teacher for the last 2 ½ years, but she has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. After her first ½ year as a teacher, as she was hired in December, she started Camp Park as a summer camp 2 days a week at Kiwanis Park in Abingdon. Jamelia single-handedly solicited donations and volunteers and organized a day camp that had over a hundred school-age children attend every Tuesday and Thursday during the summer. On those days, she asked the local Feed My Lambs organization to provide meals at the camp. The other 3 days a week, she organized to have the Quad Cities Area Children’s Food Bank bring lunches to whomever, 18 and under, wanted to come eat or get a sack lunch to take home. She has continued and expanded the Camp to include Avon children, with a bus bringing them up, and a small bus service to pick up and take kids home who might otherwise not be able to attend due to lack of transportation.
Thank you Jamelia for all you do for the students of Abingdon-Avon CUSD #276!
