On Thursday May 9, 2019 seven Abingdon-Avon CUSD #276 staff members were recognized at the 2nd Annual Excellence in Education Banquet:

Mindy Riney, Jamelia Tinkham, Stephanie McKinley-Miller, and our District Guidance and Social Work Team (Cordan Beebe, Denise Phillips, Margie Winski, and Stacy Nagel)

Over the next week, each one of these amazing staff members will be highlighted.

Today, it is my honor to highlight Cordan Beebe and Denise Phillips.

According to Michelle Andrews, HGS Principal:

Cordan Beebe has served as the District #276 Outreach Worker for the past two years. She works with students and families to provide resources, transportation and a listening ear whenever and wherever needed. She serves as a liaison between many of our families, social services, and the school district. The work she accomplishes behind-the-scenes for our students and families is truly amazing. Most importantly, she is a tireless advocate and champion for all kids.

Denise Phillips came to us as a retired Elementary School Counselor from California. Denise moved to the area to be close to grandchildren. Fortunately for Hedding Grade School, she was still interested in counseling part-time.  This two day a week job has turned into three days a week this year, and will be five days a week next year.  Mrs. Phillips, has a caseload of over 70 students she counsels weekly, and many more that she meets with on a "as needed" basis.  She has also provided conflict resolution, anti-bullying and tolerance of differences instruction to whole classes. We are so thankful to have this service for our students who have suffered trauma and/or are dealing with a crisis situation, who would not normally have access to such counseling services.

Thank you Cordan and Denise, for all you do for the students of District 276!

Dr. Curry
