This year we asked each new staff member to share a little of their personal history with us. We asked them where they grew-up, went to high school and college, why they became teachers, and a few questions to provide a little insight on them outside of just teaching.
Mrs. Howerter is teaching High School Art. She comes to us from Knoxville H.S.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but grew up from age seven on - in Monmouth, IL. She graduated from Monmouth High School and Western Illinois University.
According to Mrs. Howerter, she "became a teacher because I didn’t want to starve as a struggling artist! Just kidding, my mom and my aunt were both teachers and I really like it! I love sharing the passion I have for art with other people."
Her Favorite Hobbies: I love drawing, taking pictures, reading books, and playing with my kids.
Her Favorite sports team is the Cubs.
Her Favorite book and movie is Pride and Prejudice.
Her Favorite food is cheeseburger pizza.
Her Favorite colors are chartreuse and orange.
According to Mrs. Howerter, "I think something interesting for you to know about me is I was a “professional” student. It took me over 10 years to get through college. That included taking a few breaks to move across the country a few times and figure out exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I wouldn’t change a thing! I’m glad I was able to move around, meet and work with all kinds of different people and take my time “growing up.”
